The FEBS Congress 2026: Maastricht awaits

For those of you coming to the 50th FEBS Congress, we look forward to welcoming you very soon for five days of immersion, inspiration and international interaction across the molecular life sciences!

Find details on poster preparation, instructions for speakers and travel, as well as a wealth of programme information, on the Congress website, and stand by for release of the Congress mobile app and pre-arrival email a few days ahead of the event.

We warmly invite you to visit the FEBS stand at the Congress to learn more about FEBS Press journals and FEBS programs. Do also check out a Congress history poster exhibition for this milestone 50th FEBS Congress, with contributions from some of the FEBS member Societies who have hosted past editions of the event.

Biochemistry & Beyond, by The FEBS Journal

Did you know that The FEBS Journal used to be called the European Journal of Biochemistry? Whilst we remain firmly anchored in biochemistry, our scope has branched out and now supports all aspects of the molecular life sciences.

We are excited to introduce our Biochemistry & Beyond initiative, aimed at showcasing some of our favourite articles on topics that one might not immediately associate with The FEBS Journal. To start, we invite you to peruse our new collections on Plants & Biotechnology, Organismal Biology, Cardiobiology, Stem Cells & Development, and RNA & Epigenetics. In time, we want to expand the initiative to add new topics and collections. Have you spotted a new favourite paper in the journal that has a focus beyond biochemistry? Let us know at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

FEBS Open Bio

You still have time to register for the free FEBS Open Bio webinar that will be held on Thursday, June 18th at 16:00 CEST/15:00 BST. Guest editor Dimitris Kletsas together with several of the Special Issue authors will discuss trending topics in Cellular Senescence research.

We look forward to welcoming you all and invite you to check out the associated In the Limelight Issue on Cellular Senescence. Happy reading!

FEBS Open Bio at FEBS Congress

As every year, FEBS Open Bio editors will be attending the FEBS Congress, and we look forward to the opportunity to meet our readers, authors, reviewers and colleagues! In addition, this year, Sara Fuentes, Managing Editor for FEBS Open Bio, will also be attending the FEBS Young Scientists’ Forum 2026 to present the Early Career Reviewer Hub programme. This initiative is designed to involve Early Career Researchers in the peer-review process of Research Protocols and by doing so, contribute to their professional development. We look forward to seeing you there!

FEBS Letters

FEBS Letters is pleased to invite you to a free online webinar on Circadian Clock BiologyThe webinar will take place on Thursday, 25 June, 2026 at 9:00am PDT/ 5:00pm BST/ 6:00pm CEST.

This one-hour webinar will be hosted by Prof. Carrie Partch and Dr. Emery Usher (University of California Santa Cruz, Howard Hughes Medical Institute), and will feature three short talks by Prof. Jerome S. Menet (Texas A&M University), Prof. Priya Crosby (The University of Edinburgh), and Dr. Emery Usher (UCSC).

Questions can be asked during the webinar, and we also invite attendees to send questions to the speakers in advance for the Q&A by emailing us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

If you are interested in attending, please register for the zoom webinar here. We hope you can join us!

FEBS Letters has also recently published a special issue entitled “Dissecting life’s architecture — metabolic complexes through cryo-EM."

Guest edited by Panagiotis L. Kastritis (MLU Halle), this issue explores the role of cryo-electron microscopy in understanding diverse complexes, painting a picture of a field moving toward greater understanding of metabolic architecture. We invite you to read the issue for free here!

Molecular Oncology

To mark World Cancer Day, Molecular Oncology launched a writing competition titled “Intercepting cancer before it begins: A 2050 perspective,” challenging authors to explore how future advances in science, medicine, technology, and public health will transform cancer prevention. We are proud to announce the winners of this year's competition, whose forward-looking insights offer a glimpse into the next few decades of oncology. We invite you to read the full winning entries and learn more about the authors here.

In addition, the journal has launched two new Call for Papers collections in conjunction with upcoming conferences organized by our affiliate partner, the European Association for Cancer Research (EACR). These high-profile article collections will cover the critical thematic areas of “Cancer Metabolism” and “Chromosomal Instability in Cancer.” Aligned with the focus of these conferences, we invite authors to submit their latest research and review articles in the fields of cancer metabolism, cancer genomics, and chromosomal instability.

Liebe Newsletter-Abonennt:innen!

18th ÖGMBT Annual Meeting 2026 | FEMS Regional COLLAB & FEBS3+ Meeting, Vienna

Dear Members of the ÖGMBT,

There are moments in the life of a scientific society that make all the effort worthwhile — moments that justify the countless late evenings, the intense negotiations, the revisions, the setbacks, and the stubborn, unwavering belief that something truly new is possible. Today is one of those moments.

We are immensely proud — and genuinely moved — to share with you that after month of intense work, and more than a few drops of blood, sweat, and tears, we have succeeded in creating something our community has never seen before: a truly international, interdisciplinary format that bridges societies, disciplines, and nations under one roof.

The 18th ÖGMBT Annual Meeting 2026 is not just another conference. It is the result of a shared dream — forged in close partnership with four European scientific societies and backed by two of the continent's most prestigious federations. It is proof that when scientists collaborate, remarkable things happen.

And now, at long last, the doors are open.

We warmly invite you — our members — to be among the first to register.

A Unique International Split Format

This year's meeting combines two interconnected scientific events in Vienna, with a shared programme day bringing all participants together:

enlightened FEMS Regional COLLAB
14–15 September 2026

organized together with the Slovenian Microbiological Society and the Croatian Microbiological Society & designed to help microbiologists build meaningful, long-lasting collaborations across Central Europe.

enlightened FEBS3+ Meeting
15–17 September 2026
organized together with the Czech Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and the Slovenian Biochemical Society

enlightened Joint Programme Day: 15 September 2026

Participants may register for:

  • the FEMS Regional COLLAB meeting,
  • the FEBS3+ Meeting,
  • or the complete combined programme.

Early Bird Registration Closes Soon

Online early bird registration is now open. Secure the lowest rates by registering during the Early Registration period. As an ÖGMBT member, you are entitled to reduced registration fees. Register here.

Oral Abstract Submission — Don't Miss the Deadline

Abstract submission is now open too. This is your opportunity to present your research to an international audience spanning microbiology, biotechnology, molecular biosciences, AI in biology, precision medicine, bioengineering, and many other emerging fields. Submit your abstracts here.

Check out the List of Invited Panelists and Speakers & the Respective Programmes
