The 49th FEBS Congress: thank you!

If you were in Istanbul for the FEBS Congress 2025, thank you for all your contributions as speakers, poster presenters, audiences and exhibitors – including helping to create a strong sense of community and connection at the event. FEBS also extends special thanks to the Turkish Biochemical Society as the host Society, for all their efforts creating a memorable Congress.

With the theme ‘Bridging Continents to Advance Life Science’, a nod to the unique location of Istanbul, the event attracted over 2000 registrants from 67 countries for a rich and inspiring scientific programme of invited speaker talks, selected delegate talks and posters across the molecular life sciences, as well as a sprinkling of interesting sessions on wider topics and several social/networking opportunities.

You can now enjoy some special moments captured during the five days of the event as photos or a short video, and find some highlights of the event summarized here.

Interested in attending a future FEBS Congress? Save the date for the 50th FEBS Congress in the Netherlands next year: 4–8 July 2026.

Building Bridges: FEBS strengthens ties with two esteemed scientific organizations

FEBS has enhanced its strategic partnerships beyond Europe by establishing and renewing collaborative agreements with respected scientific organizations:

  • The Federation of Asian and Oceanian Biochemists and Molecular Biologists (FAOBMB)
Prof. Miguel A. De La Rosa, FEBS Secretary General, and Prof. Joon Kim, FAOBMB President.

Prof. Miguel A. De La Rosa, FEBS Secretary General, and Prof. Joon Kim, FAOBMB President.

Continuing the recently established bond between the two federations, FAOBMB’s lecture during the FEBS Annual Congress will be further enhanced and supported by FEBS. FEBS will reciprocally participate in the FAOBM congress by organizing the FEBS Lecture. This reciprocal agreement opens the door to a fruitful collaboration between FEBS and FAOBMB and holds significant importance for the scientific exchange between Europe and Asia.

•    The Korean Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (KSBMB)

Prof. Miguel A. De la Rosa, FEBS Secretary General, and Prof. Bong-Kiun Kaang, KSBMB President

FEBS and KSBMB have committed to uniting their efforts to achieve strategic objectives and to strengthen their connections. By promoting mutual scientific exchange through conferences and a newly established joint symposium at their respective annual meetings beginning in 2026, FEBS and KSBMB aim to lay a robust foundation for collaboration. Starting in 2026, the joint symposium will be held as follows:

• the FEBS Congress 2026

• the KSBMB International Conference 2027

• the FEBS Congress 2028

• the KSBMB International Conference 2029

"This day is of great importance for FEBS," stated FEBS Secretary General, Prof. Miguel A. De la Rosa. "The agreement with KSBMB marks a significant milestone in FEBS's steadfast commitment to promoting science and facilitating scientific exchange across Europe and beyond, while also strengthening ties with the Korean scientific community."

"This MOU marks a mutually beneficial milestone for both KSBMB and FEBS. By strengthening our academic and strategic ties, we look forward to expanding collaborative research, fostering young scientists, and building a more connected global scientific community”, said Prof Bong-Kiun Kaang, KSBMB President.

FEBS-IUBMB-ENABLE Conference: Standard Registration Extended Until August 15th

Abstract submissions for posters and talks are now closed, but you can still register to attend the full programme — featuring keynote lectures, career development sessions, and interactive networking events. Don’t miss your chance to join the ENABLE community this October in Glasgow!

FEBS Press

The Editors of FEBS Press went to the 49th FEBS Congress in Istanbul last month.

We attended inspiring talks by keynote speakers who are at the forefront of discovery, and enjoyed informal discussions with meeting attendees. The congress was a great opportunity to interact with early career researchers with curious minds and wide-ranging interests from all over the world. We were impressed by their work and awarded daily poster prizes to the very best. We were also delighted to welcome so many people to the interactive FEBS Press session on the final day of the congress.

Following an introduction to the four journals by the Editors-in-Chief and the FEBS Press publisher, attendees were split into two groups to discuss two important topics: how to choose a journal for your research, and how to promote your published article. These discussions, led by Dr. Julija Hmeljak (Managing Editor of The FEBS Journal) and Dr. Sara Fuentes (Managing Editor of FEBS Open Bio), raised many interesting and helpful considerations for attendees.

The session was concluded by a presentation by Dr. Matteo Oliverio (of Matteo Oliverio SciArt) and Dr. Duncan Wright (Managing Editor of FEBS Letters) on how to create an effective graphical abstract. This session, previously held at last year’s FEBS Congress in Milan, returned by popular demand; once again, it was standing room only for late arrivals! Dr. Oliverio shared his many years of experience as a trained scientist, graphic designer, and artist to help attendees create a compelling visual summary of their research.

Don’t worry if you were unable to attend this excellent session: an accompanying article on the art of the graphical abstract will be published in FEBS Letters later this year.

Whether at a conference or not, your work is of utmost importance to us, and we would be delighted to discuss your findings and the best way to get them published in an informal online meeting. If you wish to talk to a FEBS Press Editor, please don’t hesitate to contact one of the following Editorial Offices with a request to meet an editor at the following addresses:
