FEBS Initiatives' Reminder

Tuesday, 08 April 2025 01:32

1. Open call for Constituent Societies for FEBS-IUBMB-ENABLE Scientific Organising Committee members

FEBS is inviting Constituent Societies to nominate one of their young members (PhD student or early-career postdoc) to join the Scientific Organizing Committee (SOC) of the 2026 FEBS-IUBMB-ENABLE PhD and Postdoc Conference! This is a unique opportunity for young scientists to help shape an international conference, gain experience in scientific event planning, and connect with researchers from across the world.

The 2026 FEBS-IUBMB-ENABLE Conference will take place in Krakow, Poland, in November 2026, hosted by the Faculty of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biotechnology at Jagiellonian University. The new SOC will kick off its work with an in-person meeting in Krakow in late May/early June 2025.

Who can apply? Early-stage PhD students (preferably first- or second-year) and postdocs with at least two years remaining on their contract who are members of a FEBS Constituent Society.
What will selected candidates do? Contribute to the scientific program, speaker invitations, communication, sponsorship efforts, and event organization.
How to apply? National Societies can submit their nominations by 23 April 2025 by completing the attached form. Only one nomination can be submitted per Society.

As part of the Towards an Inclusive Evaluation of Research (TIER) working group, we invite you to take part in an important survey on the future of research evaluation. This initiative aligns with the broader mission of CoARA to rethink how research excellence is assessed at national and international levels.

+ Why participate?

  • Contribute to a collective effort to modernize and democratize research evaluation.
  • Help shift the focus from quantitative indicators (e.g., number of publications) to a more comprehensive assessment of scientific impact.
  • Ensure research evaluation recognizes diversity, including contributions from different disciplines, career stages, and underrepresented groups.

+ Who should participate?
        This survey is intended for:

  • PhD students, researchers, professors, evaluators, and RPO/RFO staff affiliated with CoARA.
  • Individuals engaged in academic research, research funding, or institutional evaluation.

+ What will your input achieve?

  • Data collected will inform evidence-based policy recommendations at the European level.
  • Results will support ongoing discussions within CoARA and contribute to academic studies on research assessment.

+ How to contribute?

  • Complete the anonymous survey (your data is fully protected).
  • Estimated time: 15-30 minutes.
  • Share the survey within your network to maximize its impact!
  • Survey Expiration Postponed: April 15, 2025, at 12:00 AM UTC +01:00 (Amsterdam, Berlin, Rome, Vienna, Prague, Brussels)

Click the link to take the survey

Your perspective is essential. By participating, you help shape the future of academic research evaluation in Europe and beyond.

Thank you very much, your The TIER Team
