Dear colleagues and friends, Infectious diseases caused by multiple antibiotic resistant pathogens present a major health issue in the 21 st century. In many cases, Type IV Secretion Systems (T4SS) are responsible for the transport of effector molecules from pathogens into the eukaryotic host as well as for the spread of antibiotic resistances among pathogenic bacteria and from commensals to pathogens. During the last two decades we have a very good tradition of international T4SS conferences taking place every 3-4 years with the last one in Bilbao, Spain, 2012. It is therefore our great pleasure to host the next T4SS conference in Germany by the end of 2016, bringing together the worldwide experts in this exciting research field, including opportunities to attract young researchers such as PhD students and postdocs in this emerging field. We are looking forward to putting together an attractive and high standard scientific program.
