Personality overrules skills
For employers, it is a matter of course that graduates of a certain training bring certain professional skills and a special know-how on a specific level with them. And it’s a widely understanding of the employers that they can train a candidate in methods and knowledge, but that it is very difficult if not impossible, to change and form the personality. Therefore the motivation, the mindset and the individual behavior both in a team and as a single person, are just as important as everyones’ professional abilities and knowledge.
Never change a winning team
It’s no problem for a company to outperform its competitors by establishing the most modern and efficient technology, as long as it has enough money. But it is extremely difficult if not impossible to copy or build a well-performing team from scratch. Therefore, leaders and recruiters look for candidates who bring with the right skills and who also fit to an existing team. It may sound unfair to you – but this is how it works. I suppose, even you would not like to work with colleagues you don’t like or you can’t aggree to their behavior.
Discover and expand your personal strengths
When you have finished a training you have acquired the same competencies like your commilitones. You don’t differe. Now it is important for you to find out, what makes you unique. What’s your special offer to an employer? What can you do best, ideally better than others? Beside the behaviors resilient, reliable, well selforganized or stress resistant are hardly anyone else which are always of advantage. It always depends on the job, you are in charge for or interested in. A researcher needs an other personal nature and habits than a sales manager. The specific know how in a field is a basic necessity – but your whole personality decides whether you get the job or not. Find out – what are your strengths?
