Managing Director Position (50% FTE)
MicrobiomeSupport Association
MicrobiomeSupport is an international association open to any stakeholder interested in
investigating, promoting and making use of food system microbiomes (Mission Vision Goals -
MicrobiomeSupport). The key mission of MicrobiomeSupport is to function as an internationally
recognised and strategically impactful actor for promoting microbiome understanding and
applications as key drivers on food security, One Health and human well-being.
MicrobiomeSupport was founded in November 2023 and currently comprises 21 member
institutions. The association builds on the previously ongoing Coordination and Support Action
MicrobiomeSupport (for the legacy of this project, visit MicrobiomeSupport Legacy -
MicrobiomeSupport).
We are looking for a Managing Director (50% FTE, 20 hours per week), who will support the
President and Vice-President in implementing all planned activities. The key activities include
extending the network, acquiring new institutional members, organizing workshops, meetings
and conferences (e.g. FSM 2025 :: HOME), coordination among members and different
stakeholders and participation in EU projects. The contract will be initially for a year (but is
foreseen to be extended) under Austrian law. The candidate will work closely together with the
President (located in Austria) and Vice-President (located in Italy) but will work primarily in
home office. Gross annual salary 34.530,50 € (50% FTE, FWF PostDoc salary). Start date:
ideally January 2025
The candidate
The ideal candidate should be highly motivated, reliable, flexible, able to work both
independently and have strong coordination and communication skills. He/she should be eager
to learn about issues related to the association and will have the opportunity to bring in own
ideas how to achieve the aims of the association. The candidate should be keen in interacting
with a broad range of people from different sectors and should be able to fluently communicate
(both verbally and in writing) in English.
Professional qualification
- MSc or PhD (or equivalent) in biology, ideally microbiology or similar
- Excellent coordination and project management skills
- Fluent in written and spoken English, proficient in German
- Excellent networking capacities
- Basic/medium understanding of microbiology and microbiome
- Ideally experience in scientific communication to a broader audience (from
professionals to social media content generation)
- Preferably experience with EU projects
- Good organisational skills and willingness to work flexibly
- Independent working style and high degree of self-responsibility
