Scientist (m/f/d) Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC) based Biosensing for Medical Diagnostics

  • In the Competence Unit Molecular Diagnostics, we are developing innovative testing solutions for health monitoring, early detection, evidence-based interventions, and personalized medicine.
  • The diagnostic biosensor team is a multidisciplinary team of physicists, chemists, biologists and electrical engineers, working on the development of next generation biosensing tools suitable for point of care diagnostics at the interface between science and industry.
Engage
  • You take over the leading role for AIT’s development tasks in a running H2020 project related to the design and characterization of silicon-nitride based integrated optical waveguide devices for miniaturized optical coherence tomography. You can build on a comprehensive set of results, established designs, and design procedures. 
  • You contribute to the evolution of our strategic research direction, you engage in project proposals and acquire direct research contracts with support from your colleagues – together, you bring ideas to life.
  • You enlarge our network with both industrial and academic partners.
  • You lead small to medium-sized research projects and actively engage with our national and international research partners.
Achieve
  • Your innovative results contribute to the success of our current research projects.
  • The photonic biosensors you co-developed are transferred to real world applications.
  • The concepts and methods you conceived lead to new research contracts.
Your qualifications as an Ingenious Partner:
  • Completed PhD studies in physics or electrical engineering with a strong focus on photonics for life science and health applications
  • Furthermore, several years of professional experience
  • Deep knowledge of integrated optical waveguide technology, with hands on experience in design, simulation and optical characterization
  • Good programming skills in Python and/or MATLAB; experience in different photonic simulation methods (FDTD, eigenmode expansion method, beam propagation)
  • Proven experience in grant acquisition and project management
  • Ability to work in a team, flexibility, and commitment
  • Very good command of English, both in spoken and written, German knowledge is an advantage

What to expect:
The minimum gross annual salary according to the collective agreement is EUR 55.020,--. The actual salary will be determined individually, based on your qualifications and experience.
