Prof. Johannes A. Schmid (Medical University of Vienna) is looking for a postdoctoral team member in the course of a collaboration project with KML Vision GmbH (https://www.kmlvision.com), specializing in microscopy image analysis using artificial intelligence (AI). The project is funded by the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG) for a duration of 2 years and focusses on novel methods of microscopic leukocyte analysis with a thematic focus on inflammatory processes.

The scientific part will be run at the Institute of Vascular Biology and Thrombosis Research, Medical University of Vienna, which provides an excellent scientific environment for basic and preclinical research with a professional infrastructure (including confocal and high-end epifluorescence microscopy on several machines from Nikon, Olympus and Zeiss, as well as flow cytometry and cell sorting etc.).

A wide spectrum of research methods is already established in the group, which has a strong team spirit of sharing expertise and resources. In this follow-up project we are building upon results from our previous successful collaboration with the company. 

Requirements:

• We are looking for a highly motivated young scientist (m/f/d) with a strong interest in life sciences, who should have already experience in microscopy and bioimage analysis.
• Applicants should have a strong background in molecular biology and/or biochemistry, very good experimental skills and a PhD degree in life sciences, genetics, or similar fields.
• They should be willing to interact regularly with the image analysis specialists from KML Vision and to work in an interdisciplinary environment of life and computer sciences.
• Experience with applying ML/AI to image analysis automation is a plus.

Start: Position is vacant from Sept. 2022.

Duration: 24 months.
