Topic:

The role of the G-protein coupled receptor CALCRL in stemness and therapy resistance of AML

Recent work by ourselves and others has revealed the G-protein coupled receptor CALCRL as a novel key player in therapy resistance and stem cell properties of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) (PMID: 31015209, PMID: 31182782, PMID: 31756985, PMID: 33462236). In the context of a project recently funded by the Austrian Science Fund, the role of CALCRL as a potential therapeutic target in AML shall be further explored using state of the art molecular biological and biochemical methods as well as in vivo and ex vivo experiments in mouse models.

Work will be carried out in the group of Prof. Dr. Rotraud Wieser (ORCID: 0000-0003-4384-6658), Department of Oncology, Clinic of Medicine I, Medical University of Vienna. This small, highly interactive team is embedded in the research communities of the Anna Spiegel Center of Translational Research and of the Translational Research Unit of the Department of Oncology. State of the art facilities (e.g., mouse, flow cytometry, imaging) are available within the building.

Starting time: around December 2022 (to be agreed on between applicant and PI).

We offer:

• a 2 year position with a possibility for extension

• salary according to Austrian Science Fund standards

• a stimulating research environment

• a friendly and supportive work atmosphere

• well-equipped laboratories and facilities

• support by a technician

Requirements:

• PhD degree in the biological sciences, or MD degree

• MScs with above-average lab experience may also apply (and will be offered a 3-year position)

• background in biomedical research and molecular biology

• high level of motivation and keen interest in biomedical research

• ability to work independently

• cooperativity and team spirit

• experience with mouse work, and ideally a FELASA course

• experience in flow cytometry is an additional asset

How to apply:
