Beschreibung:

Phytosiderophores (PS) are low molecular weight (LMW) metabolites released by roots from grass species to acquire Fe. We are currently investigating whether high PS exudation is important for micronutrient uptake in diverse crops. To date, little is known about the species-specific differences in quantity and quality of PS released and whether species-specific PS release is sufficient to maintain plant growth under moderate Fe deficiency.

Experimental tasks:
• Pot experiment with different grass crops
• Chemical analyses of root exudates
• Chemical analyse of nutrients in the plant biomass
• Quantification of expression of PS-related genes with RT-qPCR

Duration: approx. 6 -12 months
