Beschreibung:

We are currently seeking a highly motivated PhD student. The position is available in the research group of Klaus Kratochwill, the Christian Doppler Laboratory for Molecular Stress Research in Peritoneal Dialysis (CDL-MSRPD), at the Department of Pediatrics of the Medical University of Vienna.

The Project
The CDL aims to provide improved therapeutic and diagnostic options for patients requiring renal replacement therapy. This project aims to analyse the impact of alanyl-glutamine, a successfully tested cytoprotective additive to PD fluids, on post-translational modification (PTM) of proteins and effects on peritoneal immune competence (e.g. macrophage function). The project will include in vitro and in vivo experiments and the application of a wide range of laboratory methods (ranging from cell culture to omics methods). The candidate will also have the chance to obtain samples from PD patients from a biobank for clinical validation of the obtained mechanistic insight.

The Laboratory
The Christian Doppler Laboratory for Molecular Stress
Research in Peritoneal Dialysis" (CDL-MSRPD), opened
in March 2016 and conducts high-level, application-
oriented basic research. The infrastructure of the CDL-
MSRPD laboratory is located at the interdisciplinary
Anna Spiegel Center of Translational Research of the
Medical University of Vienna. Candidates will benefit
from an excellent set of high-tech resources, numerous
educational events and interdisciplinary scientific
exchange (http://cdl-msrpd.meduniwien.ac.at/).

The Candidate
We search for a highly motivated candidate, holding a degree in the fields of biochemistry, molecular biology, biotechnology, medicine, biostatistics or bioinformatics, who is willing to learn new technologies and techniques (omics, NGS, LC-MS) connecting mechanistic in vitro investigations with in vivo validation. The position requires solid analytical thinking, scientific writing skills, excellent command of English (basic German is an advantage). The ideal candidate is very talented for wet lab techniques and shows interest for data science (biostatistics and bioinformatics).

We offer

  • A challenging job in an inspiring, dynamic, young and engaged research environment
  • Personal development and participation in network-wide training activities and conferences
  • State-of-the-art research lab and supervision by recognized experts
  • Full-time PhD position starting as soon as possible
  •

Submit your application, including cover letter, CV, cerfiticates and contact details of two referees, to: cdl-msrpd@meduniwien.ac.at

Application Deadline: October 15th, 2021. The position will be filled as soon as a suitable candidate is recruited.
