Beschreibung:

Two to three 6-month paid FEMtech internships are offered in the lab of Claudia Jonak in the field of plant adaptation mechanisms in response to environmental stress.

Plant growth and development largely depend on the environment. Plants respond to changing environmental conditions via complex mechanisms, including physiological and biochemical adjustments. The internships will be integrated into larger ongoing projects investigating the physiological and molecular mechanisms of plant responses to abiotic and biotic stress conditions. By diverse means ranging from genetic and metabolic engineering to application of beneficial organisms, these mechanisms will be utilized to asses and improve plant stress tolerance. Analyses may include: plant physiology, protein biochemistry, enzymatic analyses, DNA/RNA work and microbiology. The positions are funded by FEMtech (1.400.- gross/month). Starting date is between spring and autumn 2021. The precise starting date as well as the specific outline of the internships will be defined together with the successful candidates.

Motivated female students enrolled at an Austrian University or FH, holding a Bachelor or Masters degree and with practical experience in plant physiology and/or molecular biology are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will work in close collaboration with an experienced researcher and will have the opportunity to learn and to apply different physiological and molecular techniques in the field of modern plant biology. She will join a research group working at the interface between basic and applied research at the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology in Tulln. The AIT is part of the Technopol Tulln which consists of research institutions, universities and companies.

Positions remain open until filled. To apply, please, send a letter of motivation briefly outlining why you are interested and your CV including a brief description of your research experience, in a single pdf file, via email to:
