We are seeking a talented individual who has an interest in building and exploiting interactive visualisation tools that can bridge the gap between genomic data and protein structure. The Oxford Biomedical Research Centre Genomic Medicine Theme and Structural Genomics Consortium (SGC) in Oxford want to make it possible to routinely provide accessible visualisations that help explain the potential effects of genetic variants found in local and national initiatives in the context of protein structure and function.

The work will take place within the Wellcome Centre for Human Genetics, which is an international leader in genomics research. The role will also be embedded within the SGC’s Research Informatics group ( whose members have pioneered the use of web-based technologies for structural biology visualisations, including the iSee platform. This post will provide an opportunity to drive the understanding of novel disease biology through direct interactions with world-leading scientists investigating disease mechanisms, findings which may ultimately lead to drug discovery.

This position is well-suited to candidates who have significant coding experience with contemporary web and pipeline technologies and who also have an understanding of protein structure and an awareness of public databases which may be used to annotate structure. This will allow the post-holder to be able to not only develop an impactful pipeline, but also innovate both in terms of technologies and visualisation approaches.

You will have a detailed knowledge of protein informatics databases including Uniprot, PFam, KEGG pathways, GO ontology, dbSNP and demonstrable experience in the interpretation and annotation of three dimensional protein structures in the context of their function. You will have experience of writing well-documented code in Python or an equivalent modern language. Ability to work in a proactive, well-organised, independent manner and with an ability to plan and prioritise project goals in conjunction with key stakeholders is also essential.

The position is fixed-term until 31 March 2020 with the possibility of extension and funded by the Oxford Biomedical Research Centre.
